Can’t really understand some of the "not so good" reviews i have read on this hotel. Some people you will never please no matter how good a hotel is as they will find fault with even the smallest defect. Five of us stayed for two nights over Paddy’s weekend and none of us could fault the hotel. The staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean. Food was very nice and not expensive. Can’t ask for much more really.
I recently went to the Pillo as part of a group of 9 for Paddy's weekend. We hadn't really researched before we booked or flew so it was a tad further out of town centre than we thought - but not bad, about 15 minutes walk from Eyre Square so could be much worse. The hotel has a secure underground car park and is next to a petrol station and Spar shop (both quiet and convenient). The gym has a few bits of modern equipment which is handy. I didn't try the spa simply due to time and other commitments but the prices were all good for the length of treatments. The food in the Olive Bistro was superb for lunch and dinner and the breakfast was good (as long as you get in earlier than 9:30 ish). The rooms are a good size & include an iron and hair dryer as well as an ethernet cable for using internet on business trips (the wifi is only in public areas). There is a fridge & ice bucket in each room too which is good for having a chilled glass of wine or a beer before going out or after dinner. Overall, each member of our group (aged between 20-52) had a fabulous time at the Pillo :)
Stayed here over St Patrick's weekend March 2013 in a Family Room. 2 adults and 2 children. Arrived on Friday afternoon. Eventually found entrance to Hotel and to the underground car park. Parking was free and they have a lift so you don't have to heave your luggage up stairs. Check in was quick and efficient. Free activity pack for the kids included an Annual, colouring pencils and an apple. The Family room had two standard doubles, tv, fridge, tea making facilities wardrobe space, a safe and a bathroom with shower, wc and sink. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom and a plug in one in a drawer. Asked for extra pillows and they were there very quickly. The free WI-FI was a bit of a swizz. Could not get a good enough connection in our room to do any browsing or Facebook so had to make do with a better signal in the restaurant and reception area. Usual noise levels at night but only from people slamming room doors in the corridor. Breakfast was very good. My two children took full advantage, as did we. Very relaxing to be able to have a leisurely breakfast with a free paper. Location was fairly good. Around a fifteen minute walk straight down the road into Galway city centre. Shopping centre on your way into town included Dunnes, Tesco, Aldi, an Omniplex Cinema and various others. There was a Spar and Petrol Station attached to the Hotel which was very handy for snacks etc. All in all pretty good.
Free car parking, Rooms large and quiet, staff friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent. My daughters loved breakfast in this hotel. It was a quick drive into town or an easy walk I have stayed twice before, this was my 3rd visit on a special offer. Really enjoyed all this hotel has to offer, This time I did not get an opportunity to use a Spa treatment as I was busy shopping with teenagers, but next time I will as their Spa area is just pure Bliss
Just back from a two night stay at the pillo hotel and i feel like i need to review this hotel straight away! Myself and my boyfriend visit Galway every year but this was our first time at the pillo to celebrate my birthday. As a treat he booked me in for a pregnancy back massage in the spa, after a bit of confusion i was advised against the massage as i am only 11 weeks and instead had a taster facial which was lovely, my therapist's name was Niamh who i would highly recommend. Unfortunately the mix up with treatments resulted in me being overcharged and i felt too embarrassed to mention it so paid and left. I did mention it to the hotel receptionist and i have to say i was so impressed with how the matter was dealt with, the duty manager was excellent and gave me a full refund and offered me a complimentary treatment, he couldn’t have been nicer. I found all of the staff extremely polite and helpful as did my boyfriend. The location of the hotel is brilliant just 5 mins from Eyre square and 10mins from Salthill. I highly recommend this hotel and we will be back next year.
My husband and I stayed here for one night. We found the bedroom and hotel very clean. The hotel was very close to Galway city, yet very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was delicious with a wide variety on offer. The staff were very helpful and polite. We plan on using it again when we visit Galway.
i have just returned from 2 night weekend break at the Pillo hotel Staff were very helpful and friendly and the room was comfy and clean. Only bad point was the breakfast, which was buffet style. Food was only luke warm which was a pity. I will definitely return but maybe not for breakfast.
Myself and my partner stayed at the Pillo for a two night weekend break. Our check in was extremely quick , we had asked for a quite room which we got on the third floor facing into the courtyard. The room was spotless and very spacious with a king size bed.The room also had air conditioning and a fridge Breakfast was from 7 to 11 which gave us a great lie in. It was a self service buffet with a good range of both hot and cold food. We had dinner on the second evening in the hotel which was excellent, found all staff very friendly. Will definitley book the Pillo again the next time we are travelling to Galway.
Our family stayed here for the weekend 11th to The 13th January and what an enjoyable stay it was. Reception welcoming and staff extremely helpful and friendly. Restaurant - Dinner was really lovely served by very attentive & kind staff. Breakfast the same - choice was excellent and again staff are just so friendly and helpful. Family room was really spacious and very clean. We had asked for a quiet room and our request was gratefully obliged. Location of this hotel is absolutley perfect - a 10 minute walk into the city centre. Lovely to leave the car behind in the Hotel Car Park and stroll around the city without negotiating parking. It is a pleasure to recommend this hotel to anyone venturing to Galway for a break. You will be adding your own positive review afterwards! ; )
My partner and i stayed here for two nights on the 23rd and 24th of Dec. The location of the Pillo was not especially difficult to find as we drove in from Dublin. We arfived late afternoon to be greeted by a warm, cheery and very enthusiastic reception team. The decor of the lobby was hyper festive and the place had a really lovely feel to it. Upon checking into our room we discovered we had been upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite, a special and thoughtful touch as it was our 25 year anniversary. The room I must admit was meticulously clean and tidy but looked like it could use an urgent upgrade. That said the bed, a king, was magnificently comfortable and the bathroom was equally comodious and spacious. As an Antipodean traveller not used to bath/shower combos with the ubiquitous sticky shower curtain, I found showering a tad tedious. There is free wifi in the lobby but not in rooms, the selection of free tea, coffee and bickies was very satisfactory. the toiletries too were satisfactory but not exceptional. But here at the Pillo with the minor faults I described there is a winning formula and a secret weapon.....the staff. The team at this hotel must be on some leprechaun happy water, as nothing is a problem and their smiles are as big as a West Coast Irish sunrise. In particular I must mention a delightful lady from New Jersey (I think) who basically was everywhere tending to clients needs and soothing their every concerns. On Christmas eve the team put on mulled wine and fruit mince tarts in the lobby which highlights again the care and sincere dedication this team have for their guests. And when you think you could not be indulged any further, they provided guests with a gorgoeous piece of Galway crystal to take away
Stayed in the pillo hotel first weekend in the new year 2013. A group of 7 for a spa weekend. It was a surprise for a 50th birthday and the staff were very good at helping with the surprise. The hotel was spotless, staff were extremely friendly and helpful, location was perfect and food was fantastic. We arrived on a friday evening, rooms were spotless and had everything we needed in it. Perfect size. Bar food has a great selection and is reasonably priced. Breakfast is a buffet, which was surprisingly warm and had great variety. Our spa treatments we had on the saturday. The spa is fabulous. Great atmosphere, very relaxing and the staff are brilliant at their jobs. They made us feel very relaxed and the thermal suits were well laid out and very modern. Our evening meal was delicious. As a group of 7, we have no faults with the hotel, staff or facilities. Great value for money. Would definitely return again.
We stayed here over Christmas for 6 days and have to say that it's rare to come across such friendly staff. From the moment we arrived to when we left, all the staff were welcoming and seemed to genuinely happy. We were also really surprised that when we returned to our room on Christmas even there was a Christmas card and tree decoration left for us-really unexpected and a very nice touch. The hotel itself is lovely and really clean and modern. Will definitely stay again, and would recommend for anyone staying in galway for a break.
